What is a mandala?
Mandalas are geometric designs that often rely on symmetry around a circle. In various spiritual traditions, mandalas are used as an aid in meditation. The beauty of mandalas lies in their symmetry, and the creation of mandalas is often associated with restoring inner peace.
A mandala is a design that is usually circular in form, generally with one identifiable centre point, from which emanates an array of symbols, shapes & forms.
“Mandala" is a Sanskrit word that means “sacred circle" & seen as a symbol of the universe for many Buddhists & Hindus. Most mandalas have colourful, detailed geometric patterns or designs & some spiritual traditions use mandalas for meditation or for marking a spiritual space.
In essence, mandalas represent the connection between our inner worlds & outer world & when designing your own mandalas can be both inspirational,
meditative & therapeutic, as can colouring them in ☻
Mandalas can contain both geometric & organic forms or recognisable images that carry meaning for the person who is creating it. Many of the mandalas that I create have been inspired by nature, my surroundings & the things I encounter in life.

Colouring in
When you focus on the act of colouring, you naturally fall into a meditative mindset, bringing you closer to the core of your being. Colouring mandalas is a great way to de-stress from the daily grind, by immersing yourself in a relaxing colour therapy that puts you in a state of creative flow.... & when you're done, you have a fancy pantsy piece of art to show for it!
Even if you only have 15 – 30 minutes per day to spend colouring, you may notice the calming effect that it has on your mind, body & emotions. Colouring mandalas encourages a contemplative approach to life.
These readymade outlines allow you to focus on: applying colour in various media, adding your own patterns, & refining your techniques.

Drawing Mandalas
If want to learn how to draw your own Mandalas or practice your own drawing skills then the included pages with guidelines & faded outlines are for you.
Included are pages with partial Mandala patterns & guidelines which invite you to practice building up a repeating pattern & practice your drawing skills.
By drawing over the faded guidelines you will start to establish your own lines & practice your own drawing skills; learning when to apply pressure & flexibility in the wrist.
The guidelines also help you to understand & learn how to create your own Mandalas by working from the centre & measuring the size of your lines so that they become repeating patterns.
If you’re wanting to learn how to draw & paint, these pages are a good place to start.
